Thunderstick
The MIGHTY Thunderstick are proving they are here to stay. With the new album released late 2023 they entered 2024 with a brand new show……. and the cage is BACK!!
Playing first with Iron Maiden then joining and figure heading the band Samson, [a line-up that included a young Bruce Dickinson on vocals] and prior to launching his own band, Thunderstick was, and has always been, a legendary part of the NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) scene since its conception in the late 70s. Thunderstick the band has recently celebrated its 40th Year Anniversary. Embracing the ‘Theatrical Rock’ genre, each show performed endeavours to take its audiences on a journey of escapism and originality wherever they play.
The full Thunderstick band line-up is:
Vocals – Raven Blackwing
Raven started her career as a solo artist working many venues across her native Kent. Enigmatic performances and unforgettable vocals soon attracted enquiries from rock bands nationwide she could’ve landed any number of vocal positions. She was ‘headhunted’ by Thunderstick. Her many stage personas displayed within a Thunderstick show are both mesmerising and hypnotic. She was made for theatrical rock. Once you see her you won’t forget her. The Raven has most definitely landed.
Bass – Rex Thunderbolt
Another familiar face on the Kent music scene, bass-player Rex has been a core part of the reborn Thunderstick band since 2017, playing on the well-received album Something Wicked This Way Comes as well as all the live gigs played when Thunderstick returned to the stage. A consummate performer and awesome presence on stage.
Guitar – Pete Pinto
Pete started playing guitar at the age of seven teaching himself. He has toured worldwide with many bands – a true professional. Playing Rock guitar has always been his first love…Appearing on ‘Guitar Star’ on Sky Arts, getting down to the last 20 players from 600 entrants… ! Now playing lead guitar for Thunderstick he is once more rocking stages.
Drums – Barry Graham Purkis aka THUNDERSTICK
Barry Graham Purkis’s alter ego Thunderstick became the icon of the NWOBHM scene in the 1980s. Playing with both Iron Maiden and Samson until forming his eponymously-named band. A songwriter, lyricist, arranger and producer in his own right he has led Thunderstick the band over four decades. The first performer to experiment with the anonymity of ‘Mask Rock’ now inhabited by many others such as Slipknot & Ghost. He is a true original.
