The Ovines
The Ovines are a raucous, genre-hopping guitar band, blending punk’s raw energy with the upbeat grooves of ska and the soulful sway of dub-reggae.
Rooted in the frustration of growing up in areas with an all too familiar dwindling music scene, the Ovines channel that disaffection into sound. There’s a working class defiance in their approach, marrying rebellious punk attitudes with a party-band looseness and a surprisingly sharp social conscience. While the group revels in chaotic live shows and tongue-in-cheek humour, their lyrics often dig into the grind of adult life, touching on mental health, financial stress, and the disillusionment of the late-twenties generation.
The band’s sound draws as much from Fat Freddy’s Drop and dubby New Zealand roots as it does from the Clash and Paul Weller. They resist easy categorisation—too tuneful to be pure punk, too chaotic for indie, too eclectic for ska purists—but it’s exactly this melting pot that makes them stand out. On stage, they explode with infectious energy: moshing crowds, reworked covers, and sweat-drenched ceilings are the norm.
At heart, the Ovines are about connection and catharsis. Whether tackling heavy topics or simply getting a room dancing, their message is clear: if nothing else, we’re all in it together—and that’s something to celebrate.
